Who is Mr. Davis?Steven Davis has been at Gunderson since 2001. He has taught a wide range of classes, from English Language Learners (E.L.L.’s) and struggling readers to A.P. Literature. He has spent well over 10,000 hours in the classroom. His current academic focus is moving his students beyond the formulaic five-paragraph essay in preparation for sophisticated, and demanding college-level writing. He likes to infuse English lessons with connections to rhetoric, history, and philosophy. Davis differentiates his instruction to allow for his students’ various interests, skill sets, and experiences.
Davis has served as Gunderson’s English Language Development (ELD) Coordinator and as the English Department Chair. He also served as the site’s head union representative for the San Jose Teacher’s Association (SJTA). Davis is an avid photographer and voracious reader. He likes to photograph low-light scenes, landscapes, architecture, and musicians. His favorite authors are Ernest Hemingway, Kurt Vonnegut, and Phillip K. Dick. |
